Congrats! You Failed! : Part 6 - Mentorship

MENTORSHIP

The only profitable outcome of failure is the lesson. So why not skip the pain and get the lesson directly from someone who has already failed and figured it out? That’s the power of mentorship - it lets you borrow wisdom without paying the full price of failure.

Mentorship is a long and sacred relationship; make sure you are ready before asking someone to mentor you.

Most mentees abuse this relationship and use their mentors as their personal “premium ChatGPT” subscription - running to them at the slightest inconvenience, instead of doing their own thinking first.

If you truly want their guidance, prove yourself worthy of your mentor's time and effort. Here are some practical guides to honor the relationship:

  • Attempt to do the work first - Mentors give you more when they see effort. Come with questions, not dump the problem on them
  • Value their time - Come prepared and try scheduling a session beforehand. Remember, they have their own issues
  • Apply their advice - Show visible growth. No one will continue assisting you if they don't see progress.
  • Show Appreciation - The most overlooked step. Even if you can't give them anything, let them know you value their guidance.

In the next section, we see how the lack of accurate data increases our rate of failure
