Part 5: A Realistic Journey to Certification: What They Don't Tell You!

PART 5: TIPS FOR ANSWERING CERTIFICATION QUESTIONS
I came up with 5 main categories for answering exam questions. You will find yourself in one of these categories when answering exam questions.
- The Sharks
- The Trickster
- Not so sure
- The Indecisive
- The No Idea gang
The Sharks
Understanding the concept is your best friend when it comes to answering exam questions. If you truly understand the concept, you can predict the correct answer before looking at the options.
But make no mistake, the testers also know this. So they sometimes bring a very close but wrongly worded option to the top of the list, hoping you will get complacent and choose the 1st option.
Even if you fall into this category, take your time to read all the options before picking an answer.
The Trickster
The test providers can get creative when it comes to very obvious questions and answers. As I mentioned in the previous section, the testers can bring an obvious but wrongly worded option. If you are not patient and don't read to the end, you may choose the wrong answer.
Rest assured, you can use this same trick to your advantage. If you have a question about which you have no idea, and must guess. Target the very similar and closely worded options, 80% of the time, the correct answer is one of the 2. Use your instinct to select the correct one.
Not so sure
Elimination is your friend here; there will always be some options that you are 90-100% sure are the wrong options. Mentally eliminate them. Surprisingly, this gives your brain space to focus on the potentially correct ones.
The Indecisive
You have managed to narrow it down to two options, and now you are stuck!. At this juncture, waste no time; let your instinct do the talking.
Your instinct is mostly right; don't overthink. Choose the one your instinct suggests and move on to save time.
From experience, when I second-guess myself and change an answer, I often realize my first instinct was correct.
The No Idea Gang
Let's be real, no matter how well you study, there will always be some questions you have never seen before. It could be a missed chapter during your studies, or a non-score question.
When you see such questions. Don't hesitate, just mark them for review and apply any of the above methods later. This is a great time-saving strategy.
