MAKE AI WORK FOR YOU RECAP: WHAT YOU MISSED 😏

"Hayford, we want an international Guest speaker for our monthly virtual meetup this month, on 26th September 2026. Will you be interested?"

“I’m 100% in”, I responded.

Adeline Makokha and I led a session on AI/ML during the recent AWS User group Accra Community day event on 29th August,2026. At the event, we got acquainted and connected on LinkedIn. I knew she was an AWS Hero, but little did I know she was also the lead for AWS User Group Kenya, so i was a bit surprised to see her message.

ACCRA AWS COMMUNITY DAY EVENT SESSION LEADS

First of all, I was elated to have a renowned AWS Hero reach out and invite me to be a guest speaker. Also, I have been working with AI and AI agents so i already had deep knowledge of AI Agents. So this was the perfect opportunity to share my skills and knowledge.

Within the week,I came up with the topic I would be speaking on and sent my bio and image to the AWS User group Kenya team. Even Though I knew exactly what I would be speaking on, I felt like something was missing. I didn’t want this to be one of those talks where I scroll through slides; I wanted to build something practical, personal, and real. Hence, WorriedMom AI Agent. Let’s find out how the idea of WorriedMom came about.

Sometimes, texting can feel like work, especially when I’m low on energy. So I thought , hey, why not build an AI agent that can take my short texts, determine the recipient, fetch the tone the person likes to communicate in, and send a message to them? That was the inception of WorriedMom.

On the day of the event, I met the AWS User Group Kenya team 30 minutes before the meeting to ensure we are all set up before the meeting. I was glad I joined early because I got to meet Mark Orina for the first time. We had a nice chat before the meeting started officially.

People started joining the online meeting at 1pm GMT so I commenced my session. I started by introducing AI agents and what they truly meant.

I then transitioned to the core components of an AI agent.

AI Agents: Core components

After building your AI Agent locally, you need a way to deploy it. This is where Amazon AgentCore comes in.  I briefly went through the core features of AgentCore.

And as usual, I ended with a hands-on/follow-along live coding session. We built and deployed the WorriedMom AI agent with LangChain and deployed it with Bedrock AgentCore.

I certainly enjoyed the session, and I could tell the audience enjoyed it too, given the kind of questions that followed.

I must say, I enjoyed every bit of it, and I see myself giving more talks on AI, AWS and Tech in the future. Thanks to the AWS User Group Kenya for giving me this opportunity.
